Going Fishing?.. Check The Regulations on Bag and Fish Length Limits!

Anywhere you go, chances are there are special rules regulating bag and length limits for some lakes, rivers and Fish Management Areas. Some species considered to be non-game fishes have no bag or possession limits, unless noted in individual Fish Management Area regulations.

How To Measure Total Fish Length Correctly

More than often people make costly mistake incorrectly measuring the fish's total length.  Total length is the maximum length of the fish, with the mouth closed and the tail fin pinched together.  The best way to measure fish length is to push the fish against a flat surface with the mouth closed and the fish laying along a tape measure, then pinch the tail fin closed and determine the total length:

What's The Best Tool To Measure Fish Length?

Fishing gear and bait stores and marinas offer variety of cheap or even free adhesive stickers, tape measures, etc.  Problem is - most of them don't last longer than 1/2 day of fishing... and they're all gone after a good rain. Another problem is:  when fishing from a boat with several people, last thing you want is your buddies carrying fish to that measurement sticker, stumbling over fishing gear and rocking the boat -- so you'll need more than one, preferably located close to each of the fishing stations on your boat.

After running into these problems on our 18' Tracker Grizzly boat, we came up with the idea for a simple but effective solution - what if we PAINT fish measurement ruler in 2-3 places on the boat using a special stencil? Naturally, the STENCIL should be precision-cut and easy to apply to the boat's surface - and what can do a better job than a LASER?

We teamed up with Conus Laser Group and developed our product - Keep'Em Legal Stencils - precision laser cut Mylar and Styrene stencils for painting fish measuring rulers on any surface the paint can stick to - boats, tackle boxes, coolers, etc. The stencils are reusable, so you can paint the fishing ruler in several locations - and even in different colors.

Keep"Em Legal Stencils are available in two standard sizes featuring 20" and 30" fish rulers:
